If of thy mortal goods thou are bereft
And from thy slender store
Two loaves alone to thee are left
Sell one and with the dole
Buy a hibiscus to feed thy soul.
-still don’t know the author (from Gulistan: Garden of Roses?), and there is a chance the original referred to a hyacinth, but my grandfather always said hibiscus. So that’s what it is.

this is a link to the poem, or quote. Turns out it is Hyacinth. Thank you, Sion, for helping me figure out the author for sure. In the true nature of folklore, since my family has passed it down, even inaccurately, the Hibiscus is still the symbol for me. Some day, this may develop into a tall tale of some kind, huh? That’d be pretty neat.
that is an extremely beautiful photo
