Pedemont
I record my own music under the name of Pedemont. (myspace) I am going to start posting the recordings of my songs here so dig them if you like. And let me know one way or the other. (if you want only the music posts use the music category link on the right.)
To record, I use a couple of nice condenser mics, run through a small tube preamp, then through a 6 channel mixer from the 70’s then out into the side of my laptop where I lay it all into Garage Band. It is definitely not a professional studio, but a little investment in the mics a few years ago, and some creative placement, goes a long way. I am certainly getting better quality than when I was using a 20 dollar radioshack mic, or even the hand held recorder.
That being said, I come from a do-it-yourself mentality, and really developed as a musician around a bunch of crazy people. So I tend to like the tin can quality that can happen, and happy accidents, and low-fi sounds mixed with hi-fi. So my stuff sometimes has a gritty feel.
Influences? Inspirations?
Maybe too many to really list. But I am as much a city boy as Kentucky can breed. So think about that.
Cicada Omega
So much to say, but to hell with words. Check out the site. Hear us on myspace. I play bass for with this quartet. An upright bass made from an oil drum and spit. Check out “the bass project” post. There is a photo there.
Ron’s Dizzynest
I also play bass with a small folk-jazz-esque trio with Ron Rutter and Doug Kelly. This is a link to Ron’s site. I am not on any of the recordings since I only recently started playing with them, but you can hear the music.
